The small market town of Bedale lies on the route west into Wensleydale. It has many pleasant small shops, tea rooms and public houses. Bedale has a market day every Tuesday with local produce and varied stalls.
Bedale has many traditional shops with hardly any of the usual high street name represented. Fruit and flower shops make a pretty street scene in the town.
Bedale very pretty church dominates the high street and is a grade I listed building. There are many places for nice family days out in this area. Nearby is Thorpe Perrow Arboretum which has birds of prey, a meerkat area and delightful walks through the trees. The Big Sheep & Little Cow Farm visitor centre is also in Bedale.
